About A Lust For Life
A Lust For Life (ALFL) is a multi-award-winning movement dedicated to promoting positive mental health among young people in Ireland. Since its inception in 2017, ALFL uses content, campaigns, and events to empower young people to become effective guardians of their own minds and drive societal change in how mental health is approached and treated.
Impact of Our Supporters Donations In A Lust For Life
The Care Trust has proudly supported A Lust For Life in its mission to enhance mental health awareness and resilience among young people. Last year, The Care Trust provided a grant of €115,000 to further develop ALFL's Schools Programme, building on the foundations laid by a previous grant of €80,000 towards ALFL’s meaningful work.
Schools Programme: Building Resilience from an Early Age
A Lust For Life’s Schools Programme is designed to equip young children with the tools and skills needed to manage stress and anxiety effectively. The programme is implemented in over 1,140 schools across Ireland, reaching 79,139 young people. Key elements include: Junior and Senior Infants Programme: With support from The Care Trust, ALFL developed a wellbeing and resilience programme tailored to the needs of younger children. This programme, which includes video and animated resources, lesson plans, class activities, and teacher toolkits, helps promote emotional resilience and literacy among junior and senior infants. A key component is an e-book written by a play therapist and psychologist, designed to engage children through storytelling and strengthen the connection between teachers and students.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, A Lust For Life plans to extend its impact to secondary schools with the Rising Minds Secondary Schools Programme. This ambitious project involves a dedicated development team, including two newly recruited psychologists, to create a comprehensive mental health curriculum for older students. This initiative aims to build on the success of the primary school programme and provide teenagers with the resources they need to navigate mental health challenges effectively.
A parent of a 6th class pupil who took part in the A Lust For Lift programme shared their thoughts:
“Before the programme it could take days to get the information out of him in terms of what caused the bad mood. Now he seems to be a lot more willing to say… this happened in school and that happened and I got really annoyed or I got really upset and that’s why I’m in a bad mood, which makes it so much easier, because then you can address it”
