The Central Remedial Clinic

The Central Remedial Clinic

Established in 1951, the Central Remedial Clinic (CRC) is a voluntary organisation and national charity working with children and adults with disabilities. CRC provides general disability services, in partnership with the HSE and the wider disability sector. CRC also provide highly specialist national services not replicated elsewhere in the sector.

CRC’s children’s services have two main divisions:

  • Regional general disability services in Dublin City and County that reconfigured and grew to five new teams under the new model of care in September 2021; and
  • National specialist multidisciplinary services providing expertise to children with physical disabilities from every county in Ireland.

CRC Services

CRC’s children’s disability network teams (CDNTs) work with parents and families to make a positive difference despite the challenges that can come with disabilities. Offering specific medical and clinical services for children, young people and adults with disabilities through the life cycle from birth to adulthood.

CRC’s national specialist services team provides innovative medical and surgical interventions,  therapeutic and assistive technology services to children and adults with complex disabilities and rare conditions. Using innovative medical and surgical interventions to support children and adults to achieve their maximum potential.

CRC’s adult services are based in the Dublin region, operating from several different hubs, built around individualised and group supports, as well as education and work preparation.

Impact of Our Supporters Donations In CRC

Because of the generosity of our Supporters, The Care Trust is proud to support CRC through sustained fundraising efforts. For nearly fifty years, The Care Trust has raised funds for CRC, ensuring they can continue to develop and improve services for their clients. Last year, The Care Trust provided €756,810 to CRC.

Improving Treatment in the Upper Limb Clinic

With the support of The Care Trust, CRC introduced Entonox in their Upper Limb Clinic, significantly improving the treatment experience for children. This innovation has allowed for the administration of Botulinum toxin injections directly at CRC, reducing the need for hospital visits and easing the process for both children and their families.

Future Fit Initiative

Adult Centre at Killester Hub Clontarf facility aims to transform and upgrade their services. Supported by grants from The Care Trust, this initiative includes improvements to the catering areas, hydrotherapy pool, lifts, and roof, enhancing the overall experience for clients. Phase 1 of the project has been successfully completed, with further advancements planned.

Adult Centre at Killester Hub

The Killester Hub, part of CRC’s adult services, hosts a variety of engaging programmes. One notable achievement supported by The Care Trust is the Wellness Garden, which earned the UNESCO Young Environmentalist Award. This vibrant space, created by the Life Styles and Life Skills Programme, underscores the positive impact of our funding on the well-being of CRC’s service users.

Looking Ahead

CRC continues to advance their mission with ambitious plans for developing specialist services. The ongoing support from The Care Trust ensures CRC can provide enriching programmes and essential services to all their clients, helping them live life to the fullest.

Declan's Story:

“My first time getting the Botulinum toxin injections was scary and it was very painful, I only had numbing cream to help. The second time was so different, I got to use a gas called Entonox that you breathe in and after that, there was no pain. Everything was explained to me before it happened, and I felt comfortable. If I wasn’t able to use this in CRC, I would have had to go on a waiting list to get this done in the hospital but, in the new room in CRC, I was able to get it done there and then. It will be easy to get it done again and I definitely won’t be afraid.”
